Positive: I enjoyed conversing with Marielena, who was the person responsible for getting me the keys. She lives across the street. I enjoyed the rooster crowing next door, but other people might not. . I used to raise chickens myself. I liked the working class neighborhood and the people I met and chatted with there.. Having the supermarket and other shops in the nearby shopping plaza was a plus.
Negative: The kitchen screens had big holes allowing a large Huntsman spider to enter. Yikes! The bathroom window could use a screen also. Several of the windows didn't crank open and close properly. There was a problem when the wi-fi cut out but Bookings.com personnel got it fixed pronto. There was nothing within walking distance, not even coffee shops, that I could find. I would gladly have taken buses/gua-guas into different areas but although I'm fluent in Spanish, there was no information useful on-line or even by asking people on the schedule, fare, routes - nothing. It would be great to supply that bus info in the room. Likewise some numbers for private taxis. Without buses my only option was Uber or renting a car. I was really looking forward to taking buses to explore different areas of the city and nearby but hard-to-walk to neighborhoods, but couldn't afford Ubers for that. It might be good also to leave information for guests about some places of interest like the university Botanical Gardens -- and local places to eat or coffee shops in walking distance if there are any. I never found them if so.
Summary: I will definitely return to Puerto Rico.

Positive: Over all the room we booked was it self nicely decorated and in reasonably good condition, located in quiet street close to a bigger super market and some (chain) restaurants.
Negative: For the price, location (distances without car), neighbourhood ("dying") and services was not enough for us. We spent 24 hours without any electricity (air condition, fridge, wifi, ...).

Positive: I liked the fact that the property was close to the Luis Muñoz Marín Airport, Old San Juan, and many of the beaches. I also liked that the premises were very clean and located in a safe neighborhood. Furthermore, I liked that parking was never an issue. You could park on the street at any time of day without fear of your vehicle being vandalized or stolen. Last but not the least, I liked that the house came with a microwave oven, a sizeable fridge, and sitting area in the kitchen to have a coffee or eat dinner. Finally, Mr. Lucian Turnbull, the owner of the Airbnb, was very response to the problems I encountered which I have documented below.
Negative: Although very clean, I was disappointed at the overall size of the property. Although it had a wide garage, which for some reason was not made available to me and my co-tenant, the kitchen area and bedroom were smaller than I had expected. But the thing that really marred my stay were some plumbing problems affecting the bathroom and the toilet. They worked well for the first six days but in the last three, they kept backing up to the point where I could not use the toilet at very crucial moments. Although Mr. hired plumbers to fix the problem, they did not succeed because they did not have the appropriate equipment. And they lacked such equipment because they were not trained plumbers. On the day I departed from the property, a new plumber was there looking to fix the problem once and for all, so I hope the next tenant does not go through what I went through. To his credit, Mr. Turnbull refunded the rent of the last three days, but the fact remains that my stay in San Juan for those days three were no longer fun. One more thing: Don't contact Mr. Turnbull through the phone number listed on Booking.com unless you don't mind paying for international calls. The number was registered in the British Virgin Islands so I now owe my phone company $63 for the calls I made to him. I wish I had known that it was not a Puerto Rico number. I would have communicated with Mr. Turnbull solely via WhatsApp, which, fortunately, he also has.
